RACE CAPPED AT 500 RUNNERS
Race starts at the base of Grand Targhee, (elevation 7860' ft.), start your ascent near the base of Dreamcatcher chair next to Trap Bar patio. Immediately you start gaining elevation as you run up the service road via Teton Vista Traverse. The steep road treats you to views of beautiful Aspen groves and spruce trees. Not much time to rest here as you gain mid mountain, really cool views of Mary's & Peaked peak amphitheatre. Continue up the Teton Traverse Trail with connecting to Many Saddle Hiking trail (amazing views open up into the Caribou Targhee National Forest). Once you get to the base of Mary's Ridge, there will be an aid station here, mile 2.2 approx, now the real fun begins, you'll head straight up Mary's ascent, the trail consists of big boulders, single track, may require use of your hands, yet a very passable path that has seen lots of foot traffic. Incredible views of the Grand Teton come into view once you're about to hit the summit of Mary's Nipple (9,920' ft), you'll catch your breath, run along the ridge towards the saddle between Mary's and Peaked Mountain, this will be amazing high alpine world class mountain running. Please be confident in your stepping.
This area will be a much welcomed ease of severe climbing you experienced pushing for Mary's summit. You'll begin to make a short, but technical ascent to Peaked Mountain summit, incredible views of Grand Teton, Grand Targhee resort & views of the entire valley. The ascent is steep & technical area w potential of snow, again, please be confident in your steps, & mindful of your fellow competitors. You'll summit of Peaked Mountain (elevation 9,830' ft.) truly a breathtaking summit. From here you descend Peaked Mountain, it will be a mix of rock ridge connecting to a brief service road, there will be another Aid Station, approx mile 3.8. Start to descend down to Ain’t Life Grand singletrack to brief service road connecting quickly to Peaked Trail singletrack. Towards lower mountain, you will make one last downhill push on the Yada singletrack, onto Yada Yada trail. You will finish back on lower portion of Andy's singletrack, then finish in the vendor village at Trap Bar plaza where you started. Please stay on marked & established trails at all times, be courteous of your day hikers out enjoying nature on the same trails. Course is 7.1 miles, featuring 2,212' ft vert.
SAFETY LANGUAGE
The course is the most direct route to the high alpine, it is steep, but intuitive, you will be pushing hard for the summit, putting yourself to your capacity, lungs, grit, and strength. Please note, we will have the course well marked, it is imperative, for your safety, you follow precise path of flagging. If you kick a rock loose, immediately yell 'rock' to notify fellow competitors you have kicked a rock loose. If you are further down the course and you hear, 'rock!', please do not look up, please turn your back and protect your head. Careful footwork, look out for the safety of yourself and fellow competitors equally. Please be mindful of other competitors, if you encounter an inured competitor please inform the nearest course Marshall, EMT or Targhee Patrol along the route. Course is well marked with orange flagging, if you suddenly find yourself on a path without immediate orange flags to indicate the route, please turn around, go back the way you came until you get back on trail with orange flags.
